My scooter does the same thing! with dirty carburetor! hehe

But don’t engines use more fuel starting up then they do just idling?

Holy shit, it DOES use the starter every time!
I was told it kept the piston with a fresh charge and fired the coils, thereby moving the piston…but it does not. Wow! I would think that would wear the starter out…but according to what I just read, the alternator and starter are the same unit on this scooter.
Neat stuff either way!
SO MANY people out there could make use of a scooter to save fuel and money…too bad in the US, people think they need a big-block SUV to drive three miles!

this has been put in to cars for some years now…. my Alfa Giulietta has the same thing , all you need to do is press the clutch.

Pretty cool. Too bad all scooter riders are squids.

I want one of these actually but I need an actual bike license as I can only ride a 50cc with my normal car license. They now sell a 150cc version of the PCX at least in Japan which is pretty sweet.
Like you I dislike that it’s not a step through scooter because I always carry duffel bags and shopping items on the floorboard on my scooter.

The idle stop feature is not available in the US.

The Honda Crea Scoopy-i announced in 2001 had idle start stop with the combined alternator/starter. Honda scaled up and improved the system for their recent PCX.

A properly working battery won’t be drained by headlights at stops to the point where the bike can’t restart. If you plan to store your bike for long periods of time, then keep the battery charged or topped up every few weeks. Otherwise, the battery will permanently lose capacity.

and a damn nice one at that. i wonder if its an actual sti that they never sold in the US.

why not try and burn less gas?

i hate these damn things…once you lose your drivers license you should only be able to ride the bus or car pool, because once you’ve abused them i don’t care about your rights any more.

Wtf is the point……Its not like these burn that much gas

You don’t have to be ignorant about it

i’m guessing your friends golf cart is broken, maybe it is just stalling when he lifts off the gas by mistake

golf carts have had the same idea for years, the generator runs as a motor and cranks the engine when needed

I work at a golf course as a golf cart attendant (I know it sounds like a lame job, but i’m only 16). Our current carts (about 10 years old) have this feature and its really great, it saves gas, and I’ve never had a problem with it. But we just got new carts and they don’t have this feature. It sucks having to listen to the engine idling and knowing that I am going to have to fill the carts with gas more frequently.
